Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student completed his algebra take-home quiz. It was about graphing systems of equations. It took him some time to work out the problems, but he did not give up, and steadily worked through the problems. When he had finished it, we discussed fractions and how they are moved around according to the order of operations. I used visual examples with sticky notes to explain what a fraction is. We discussed how to write a professional email, and whether or not the planner worked for him. He said that it has definitely helped him remember to do more, and that he has now turned in all but two missing assignments for his classes."
"In this lesson, the student and I discussed the formal definition of the derivative as well as the basic derivative rules. We then worked on the chain rule and introduced implicit differentiation. He seems like a bright student who just got behind. He seemed to understand the basic topic after a short review and did adequate on more challenging topics. I left him with several problems. His goal is to be on time and caught up by our next lesson next week."
"She and I had a productive session. She had not completed the diagnostic, so we did some practice problems to determine her area of struggle. She was strongest in writing and needed to improve the most in reading and math. She will take a full length test prior to our next class."
"The student and I continued to work the most on refining his quantitative skills for the test. We went through a number of high level difficulty problems. He was able to complete about half of the problems, and I helped him solve the problems he missed by illustrating the solution. We talked in detail about the strategies of number picking and backwards solving. He is getting better."
"The student and I had another math session today--we continued on with out material and covered up to fractions and decimals, and then we began a discussion on the equivalence of fractions, percents, decimals, and ratios."
"We went over a diagnostic test the student took. Mostly, he seems intimidated by questions that seem complicated at first glance. I'll work on simplifying those problems for him. Everything else went well and I'll be assigning him homework throughout the week. Next time we'll go over the homework and other practice problems that he had difficulty with."
