Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the verb "ir" with locations. I introduced the topic "ir + a + infinitive" to talk about future activities."
"At our session, we went over her Spanish materials. We also practiced conversation on a basic level to help me get an idea of her level of speaking ability. We then realized that she needed to review verbs first in order to refresh her memory and make conversation flow a little better, so we decided next week we would spend time reviewing basic verb conjugation and then moving on to practicing conversation using those verb conjugations."
"Reviewed remaining vocab for cumulative test that was moved to Wednesday. I instructed the student to practice and study before our next session."
"The student and I reviewed negative/affirmative pronouns, nouns, and adjectives, such as algun, alguna, algunos, algunas, ningun, ninguna, ningunos, and ningunas, through online exercises and a graphic organizer. I left him with an additional practice game for his test. Then, we dug into his reading for school. We practiced using cognates as a prereading strategy and stopping to take notes and summarize. We also read the story between the two of us to make dense dialogue more comprehensible."
"The student and I reviewed saying people's ages and dates of birth. Then, we practiced with irregular verbs. She wrote sentences with each verb, concentrating on phrases that would be useful at work. Finally, we drilled the conjugations with a dice activity."
"The student and I spent the session today working on studying for his Spanish finals. He was having difficulty with por vs. para at the advanced level, so we focused most of our time on that, and annotating the vocabulary that is slipping through the cracks. He's going to do really well on his finals, I'm sure, but I think working with him once a week keeps him in check as far as remembering the vocab and slowing down to think about his translations and pronunciation."
