"The student did very well today. We worked on inequalities. First, we did problems together to go over the basics and how to solve them. It gave her very good practice with algebra as well. Then she did ten problems on her own and did well and seemed to understand. Then we did college exam sentence completion problems and went over the strategy of process of elimination. Lastly, we did a few passage questions. I gave her a passage test to do and a math diagnostic to see how she has improved."
"This was our first session. We began with introductions and goals for our lessons. We also went over expectations briefly and then began with our lesson. We spent the lesson going over the essay portion of the exam, given that this is an area where points can be quickly gained through practice. We went over how to structure an essay and then the type of content that test graders look for. We then went over creating an info bank so that the student could spend less time on test day thinking about examples to center his essay on, and more time on the small details. Finally, we did two essay exercises. The first was reading over graded essays to get a feel for what perfect, and not so perfect, papers looked like. The second was to practice creating an outline and thinking through the essay given a prompt. I left him with more essay practice for homework. He seemed to follow everything nicely."
"I met the student and her mother last night and was overall very pleased with how our first session went. She is a dedicated student which I think will work in our favor. She has a 3.95 GPA and volunteers at a museum. I find her to be a very impressive young woman. As far as the college entrance exam goes, the majority of our efforts will be focused on the math section, particularly linear geometry. All in all, the session was very collaborative and informative and I look forward to helping her out with test prep."
