Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I continued working on rotational volumes, as well as introducing cross-sectional volumes. She needed guidance at first about how the cross-sections worked, but after my explanation and a few examples, she started getting the hang of it."
"In this lesson, we started off by working with inverse Trig functions some more. We dealt a little with their derivative, and also simplifying and manipulating them. I introduced a tricky tactic that is needed for dealing with compositions of Trig and Trig inverse functions that involved drawing a triangle. We also did some L'Hopital's rule practice. Lastly, we moved on to some word problems that involve Trig equations and were a segue into related rates and optimization problems."
"We covered more advanced series and summations. We worked on determining the total sum of a series, determining convergence and divergence of different types of series, and using different tests like integral and comparison tests. The most difficult thing seems to be identifying which test works best for each problem and what arithmetic tricks can be helpful to simplify problems. These issues will be solved through practice during next session and his homework."
"We went over the chain rule all session. We discussed conceptualizing its use, as well as the algebra of using it multiple times in one problem. The student has a quiz on Wednesday, and then a test next Tuesday, so, we'll take next Monday night to tie up any loose ends before the test."
"We covered: rates of changes and using the chain rule to evaluate rates of changes. The student was very positive towards the material."
"We mostly focused on finding the domain/range of different functions and how to tell if a function is discontinuous. The student has a test on this material but said she felt comfortable with the material and just wanted to go over a few concepts."
