Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test today on the material in chapter 18 of her textbook, so we spent our first session going through all the major concepts in ch. 18 and then worked through some of the review questions at the end of the chapter. We worked on determining oxidation numbers of special ions such as copper, lead, iron, and chromium. We also practiced writing out compound formulae. I think that working through some of the questions together boosted her confidence a bit, and with a little review of the polyatomic ion charges she will do well in her test."
"The student told me that she did pretty well on her last quiz. She got an A! We then went over the material she was covering in class which was empirical and molecular formulas. We reviewed some concepts in the book and I asked her to define and describe different terms for me. We then went on to how to find the empirical formula given the mass percentages. Then we went over how to find the molecular formula after knowing the empirical one. We did many practice problems and she did very well on them! I told her to continue reading the book for homework and to keep up the good work."
"The student and I started work with molarity and stoichiometry. The student did great on her assignment, and she comprehended the new subject very well. Her teacher usually assigns her daily worksheets so we completed her worksheet for the day and also worked on some vocabulary. On Thursday, we will continue our work with stoichiometry."
"The student and I went over the material for his biology test on animal behavior next week. We reviewed each chapter and discussed each part in detail. We went over all of the practice questions and sample quizzes at the end of each chapter. The student asked several questions to help him understand the material better for each section, so we made sure to clarify those as well. Overall, the lesson went great and the student is definitely ready for his test!"
"The student and I went over meiosis today. We started with a broad overview of what the purpose of meiosis is and then delved into the details. The student took notes on all the phases as well as key terms. At the end of the session the student wrote down a review plan that he would work on over the weekend. By the end of the session the student seemed to have a good understanding of the topic and will hopefully be able to do some good review before our next session."
"We covered tonight a review of the support/neural systems found in different species; and then moved into new material of asexual/sexual reproduction types and terms as well as different types of body systems found within different kinds of organisms from very simple to very complex systems. The student as always was super positive and willing to learn. She did really well tonight and it was evident she has been reviewing prior material."
