Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by looking over vocabulary. The student has been studying her stems, which is useful, and we're still working to make them an effective tool for dissecting words. We looked through a long vocab list and picked out a couple at a time to see if we could find connections in words. Our next session will be vocab-heavy in an attempt to really drive home the skills we've been working towards. We spent the rest of the session working through the mathematics sections. As soon as she identifies the concept, she usually has no problem. By working through so many problems today independently, and then checking back over them together, she started to see these patterns, which is great."
"First we started with a word hockey review and word arithmetic to practice vocabulary. Then I had the student do some reading comprehension exercises that were specific for each topic. He did really well except for the main idea and the inference questions. Then we did Geometry section and reviewed concepts. Lastly, he did a vocabulary test section. We will continue to review vocabulary. I will also have him come up with a page of strategies to prepare for the exam."
"During this session, the student and I started to review the Math section for the SSAT. She did extremely well, and we got through all of the basic arithmetic section of the test. Next session, we will continue on with Math, but will move on to harder concepts. We will then move on to the writing section."
