Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered oxidation numbers of elements and molecules. I showed the student how to find the oxidation numbers, and based on these to identify reducing and oxidizing agents. We also worked with classifying reactions as oxidation or reduction. He understood the concepts very well after practice with homework problems. Great session!"
"The student and I worked on stoichiometry and balancing equations. We worked through a number of problem set questions that dealt with identifying limiting and excess reactants. She was very good at balancing equations but needed to gain some more confidence in identifying the necessary steps needed to solve the problem. The fundamental understanding is there and her confidence in solving the problem step by step will come along with more practice problems, which I recommended."
"The student and I reviewed Oxidation/Reduction Reactions, specifically, how to balance them, as well as balancing complex reactions in acid or base. When I arrived, he was very concerned as he did not have a strong grasp of the material. He was very receptive to my explanations. We spent the session going over concepts and doing practice problems from a textbook that I brought with me. Overall, he felt much more confident with the material at the end of the session."
"The student and I worked on several practice problems on limiting reactant and percent yield. She has become more confident and was able to solve the problems correctly. We then discussed thermodynamics, specifically enthalpy of formation, delta enthalpy of reaction, and Hess' law. We need to practice more on Hess' Law."
"The student and I worked on several problems, all using the three-step method to analyze torque and linear forces. Some of them required trickier algebra than others. One had transcendental equations that we had to divide to solve. He had worked a bit with one of his friends who is doing very well in the class, and it showed. He was able to easily set up his force diagrams and sum the forces and torques. He was also very good on the algebra and trigonometry."
"The student and I worked on SHM and went over her review. She understands this section and is going to be fine. Her understanding of the theory is great, and math is simple for her once she can have the formulas completely down. Overall, I feel like she is going to be fine!"
