Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed for upcoming test on reaction rates and electrochemistry. Focused on using table of given concentrations and rates to determine order of reaction. Also reviewed predicting products of redox reactions."
"Conducted a review of terms related to activation energy factors and enthalpy. In addition, we reviewed the different types of reactions, balancing equations, and writing formulas from word descriptions. Completed practice of balance equations, a few solubility rules, and writing formulas for acids and bases using polyatomic ions."
"Topics - Thermochemistry: In this session we learned about temperature, kinetic energy of molecules, and states of matter. We did this in the context of temperature measurements of water and why temperature changes the volume of the alcohol in a thermometer."
"At this session, the student and I went over some new material over the topics of matter and classifying the characteristics. We went over a worksheet on the topic. I also wanted to make sure she understood and retained the information from the last lesson. I asked her to do a question on unit conversions."
"Concepts covered: Dalton model of atom, Thomson model of atom, Rutherford model of atom, atomic notation, atomic mass, wave nature of light, quantum concept, Bohr model of the atom, and quantum mechanical model of the atom. Attitude: The student was positive, motivated to work through examples and answer questions testing her understanding of concepts. Strategies/Study Skills - I told her to try to relate chem to everyday life or things she is interested in. Extra practice: Work on the conversion from percent to decimal Scores/Grades: 90% on her last exam Wins: She is doing great. She is easy to work with and a good student."
"Concepts covered: Electron atom orbit, energy levels, and configuration. This particular concept takes a lot of practice so I suggested that the student practice the electron configurations for the elements in the table."
