Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We completed a review of functional groups and substituents. In addition, we worked on understanding and naming the fatty acids, lipids, and carboxylic acids. I conducted an overview of the how the amino acids connect within DNA and RNA. We highlighted the structure of purines and pyrimidines, categorizing the different amino acids and how they connect to the sugar and phosphate groups within DNA and RNA. I assigned additional practice at the end of chapter 23 and instructed student to inquire about study guide to prepare for upcoming test on Tuesday."
"During this session I helped the student work through a new chemistry topic and some related homework. This had to do with the energies of reactions and how to calculate them using the bond energies of the reactants and products. We then worked through problems using energies and the molar amounts of reactants and products, with molar conversions incorporated. She continues to improve in her chemistry knowledge base and seemed to have a much better understanding of the current topic by the end of our session."
"The student and I covered a lab on light spectroscopy. He had performed a lab measuring the wavelength and absorbance of different samples. He wanted to cover the basic science behind the assay and seemed to have a good understanding of the work when we finished. He said he'd have more work to cover following the second part of the lab."
