Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered nucleotides/DNA/RNA. We were also able to cover transcription and discussed the next steps the student should take to prepare for his exam. We also went over half of the practice exam that his professor posted and questions that he got wrong."
"After some conversation, we worked on a text the student found that he wanted to check out: "On War," by Carl von Clausewitz. We worked through the first several paragraphs of this, finding it dense. For next time he asked me to surprise him with something else, perhaps a bit lighter."
"For math homework, they have a rounding to tens worksheet and common core math. For writing, they have to do some creative writing activities online. The student thought of excellent supporting details for the two paragraphs. They will practice with math multiplication flashcards. We did visual practice drills with speed. Excellent Session!!"
"Today the student and I went over solving nonlinear equations with pattern recognition. We discussed the process for determining the common difference and what to do if there is no common difference at first, and what that means for the equation to be written. We focused on solving systems of equations to resolve polynomial equations from patterns given. I also helped him with his current homework; solving inequalities. Before I left, I had him answer two of his word problems to ensure that he would not be struggling with word problems. He did very well today. He was more vocal about the concepts he had issues with and was better able to talk me through what his was doing. He is, overall, doing much better."
"In today's session, Student A worked on multiplying by 2 and part of an ISEE practice test. She also learned that a dozen is 12! She told me about coloring a map of Australia in school today, too. She really enjoys artsy things. Student B did well on division, and seemed to really enjoy counting and adding coins. Student C did well on division, and enjoyed learning how to multiply multi-digit numbers by one digit. He also worked on a word problem that had several questions in it and worked hard. Good job for all today!"
"Today, we covered all areas of the math section. I threw mostly 4 and 5 star problems at the student, and she needs to practice this section on her own. I think if she reviews concepts like complementary and supplementary angles and SOH CAH TOA, she'll knock out those harder problems much faster."
