Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on derivatives - the shortcut to finding the first derivative of a polynomial function, of a constant, and of a function with a fractional or a negative exponent."
"We reviewed some previous lessons and homework problems to help clarify things she still didn't have confidence with. She did well at following the explanations. She's a smart kid."
"We worked on finding the trigonometric functions using a point on the graph, (x,y), and the "radius". Along with this, we calculated the exact value of trigonometric functions on various points of the unit circle, such as pi and 2pi. We practiced solving those using degrees, radians, and negative degrees and radians. The student definitely had a solid understanding of solving angles using degrees."
"We worked on simplifying radicals, function notation, linear equations, Newton's Quotient, polynomials, and the domain of a function. We looked at how Newton's Quotient is finding the slope of a line connecting two points on a graph and how calculus will give us a way to use this to find the slope of a curve at a specific point without needing a second point. We practiced finding the domain of a function and different ways of writing it. The student is becoming more confident in simplifying expressions and equations as well as recognizing linear equations. We will continue looking at functions, graphs, and inverses before moving on to exponentials, logarithms, and trigonometry."
"We went over converting between degrees and radians, finding coterminal angles, and calculating arc length and the area of a sector. We then went over calculating the six trig functions using right triangles and find the lengths of a triangle using trig. The student had some difficulty telling the difference between opposite and adjacent sides but we went over how to distinguish the two."
"We did a couple of homework assignments covering inverse matrix, word problems involving matrices, and partial fractions. The student was able to pick up on these concepts well. We even worked on entering matrices on his calculator so that he'll be more proficient in using his calculator to calculate complicated matrix operations."
