During this session we went over chemistry, focusing on ideal gas laws. The student had a good grasp on the math portion but often had trouble knowing which formula to use and when. Overall, this session went well. We did various questions and he seemed to have benefited from the session.

The student got a 100 on his last physics exam! There was a celebration at the household. He has improved greatly, not only in solving problems, but also in understanding the concepts behind physics. This time we started talking about magnetism and familiarized ourselves with the three right hand rules essential to determine direction. It took a while for him to 'get it' but in the end, I think he had a good grasp on the right hand rule. He said that this should help him with this upcoming unit.

Practice session in preparation for upcoming test. We worked review problems provided by the teacher on balancing chemical equations, chemical reaction energy relationships. I encouraged the student to complete work on the remainder of test review problems, so that we can cover any remaining weaknesses during our next session before his test.

The student and I continued to learn and review material from chapters 15 and 16. We used the textbook to learn about molecular orbitals, orbital hybridization, sigma and pi bonds, etc. This material is difficult and can be confusing, so we will review it before the test. We also spent some time reviewing stoichiometry problems from a class worksheet (limiting reagents, mole-volume conversions for gases).

The student had a test a couple weeks ago on kinematics that he got an 85% on. The test was more difficult than he expected based on the practice test, and he was very happy with his final grade. Today, we started reviewing concepts for the next section of his course on forces. We briefly reviewed Newton's Laws and began going through practice problems. We reviewed the three example problems that his professor covered and then reviewed homework problems. He did very well on the homework problems. He is able to correctly draw free body diagrams and label forces based on the questions. He is also able to divide the forces and accelerations into their x and y components to solve the problems using Newton's second law.
