Austin, TX Differential Equations tutoring
Today, we worked on problems in separable equations and first order Euler equations (or first order ODEs with integration factors), most with initial values. We reviewed integration by parts, the derivative and integral of the exponential function, and discussed what it meant for the general solutions of a problem to be asymptotic to a function as t grew large (and by extension, as t grows small). The student and I will review determining the initial value for the dependent variable (usually y) and the initial value for the independent variable (usually t). I will probably round up some integration by parts problems and general integration problems for review to suggest as extra practice for him in our next session, which we agreed on for tomorrow at 2 p.m. He has mentioned that he had taken the first part of this course previously and he has expressed a desire for refresher material from the previous calculus courses as the last calculus course he took was a year ago. So our primary focus for tutoring will be reinforcement of the current material and homework support with a secondary focus in refreshing the prerequisite material for this course. He has asked if we could meet for sessions twice a week as a baseline with possible additional sessions as needed for homework support. All in all, we appear to be in a good place with the material so far.
