Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The GMAT tutoring session with the student went well. We focused on reviewing the questions she completed in the problem solving and sentence correction sections of her GMAT prep book. She has continued to perform well in the Data Sufficiency section. She had challenges in the problem solving section. As we worked through the questions she answered incorrectly, she understood why the correct answers were the best choices and how to solve the questions. I also encouraged her to make her best guess on questions that take a long time to solve. For our next tutoring session, she will complete additional practice questions in the problem solving and sentence correction sections of her prep book."
"This was the last session before the student's test. Her latest practice test verbal score went up. We went through that test and another she took, and reviewed all the important areas of the test."
"-Focused on some problems she had questions on. Also focused on sentence correction. -She will continue to practice problems during the week."
"Today we started working on the vocab and reading comprehensions sections. I emphasized the importance of identifying contextual clues for finding the right vocab word, and for finding textual evidence when working on the reading comprehension section. Next session, we will go back to the math section and cover word problems and percentages."
"We began by discussing the layout of the GRE and what the student thinks of as his strengths and weaknesses. Most of our time was spent on a sampling of data analysis questions, especially ones involving linear transformations. We finished with some sentence completion exercises."
"We began talking about the test, test-taking strategies, and ways to deal with distraction and "hitting the wall"--beginning to lose motivation or focus toward the end of a lengthy test. We also discussed general ways to deal with word problems (i.e., "translating" English to Math) and reviewed integer rules and other definitions. We powered through the rest of geometry section, investigating multiple ways to work through a couple (e.g., scalar multiples and how they apply in 2- and 3-dimensional space and thinking of circles and arcs in terms of pizza). The student's math fluency is getting stronger every week. Looking ahead at next week, we've got some beastly data problems looming, so we'll be diving into those. He is also downloading a test prep program to get some realistic practice down for next week."
