We had an excellent session today where we focused on working numerous problems from today's topics. We first reviewed homework problems that were assigned on mole to gram, mole to particle, gram to particle, percent composition and empirical formulas. The student did very well on the assignment. We did review empirical formula calculations and the segued into calculating molecular formulas by combining experimental data and empirical formulas. We then covered hydrates, what they are, what they are used for, and their usages as desiccants in desiccators to store chemicals in a moisture free environment. We finished the session by calculating formulas for hydrates.

The student and I reviewed the integumentary (skin) system in a teach-back method (i.e. I asked her to tell me what she knows about the basal layer, etc.) and went over specific questions she didn't know for her lab review in preparation for her lab quiz tomorrow. She has a very positive attitude about the anatomy and physiology and grasps the subject well. She also seems very willing to put in the work to study. She stated she received 10/10 on all 3 terminology quizzes and that the practice quizzes I had sent her really helped. I will be preparing extra practice for her to prepare for her lecture exam on Tuesday (Ch. 1-3) and for her lab practical next Thursday (histology and skin). It seems she benefits most from having practice problems to guide and test her while she is self-studying.
