Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked today on some physiology/bio flash cards. We discussed the nature of studying for a standardized exam and discussed the book she is using for her prep. We plan on working on more physiology/biology flashcards from the tutoring company's database until I secure a copy of the prep book that she's using."
"The student and I began by walking through several chem/phys and bio/biochem passages and questions from her most recent practice exam. These included concepts in the autonomic nervous system, protein structure, enzyme structure, amino acid properties, and condensation reactions. She noticed that several questions she got wrong involved interpretations of figures and tables, so we worked through several passages involving these types of questions. These passages covered immunity, cellular differentiation, and ion transport."
"The student and I met for our first session. We discussed her history with the test and her goals for the upcoming test. She expressed a desire to work on verbal reasoning the most so we spent most of the session on that section. I went over the basic strategy for the section and explained the importance of learning as much vocabulary as possible. We went through approximately 20 questions. At the end of the session, I explained a number of geometry concepts to her."
"The student and I worked on probability, percents, percent change, and ratios. It was a good review, and they were feeling much more confident toward the end."
"The student and I worked on some math concepts, including probability, data analysis, word problems, exponents, and squares. We discussed different approaches to various problems, and how to do problems without relying on the calculator. We worked on verbal and reading comprehension together, as well. We practiced the different strategies she can use for those."
"The student and I worked on the math problems that she missed while working by herself over the last few days. She's very nervous about the test, but I've advised her to take most of Sunday off and take a couple of timed sections on Saturday. That will ensure she has the time limit down, and hopefully boost confidence. She's going to do great!"
