Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was rather productive. We went over how to name ionic and molecular compounds, since this was a topic on her homework. We then switched gears and talked about bond enthalpies and how to calculate the net change in enthalpy for a reaction, because this was another portion of her homework. The student picked up on everything quickly today. Tomorrow we will finish up the rest of the topics on her homework."
"Tutored the student on topics of heat changes in solutions (calorimetry); discussed definitions of temperature and heat capacities of different substances; discussed Hess' law and heats of chemical reactions and how to calculate them using increasingly complex sets of data. Student is eager to learn concepts and how to apply them to typical test and quiz questions. His grades have improved."
"We reviewed a review sheet and practice problems on solutions chemistry. Topics covered: making solutions, diluting solutions from stocks, saturated, unsaturated, supersaturated solutions. Also colligative properties such as vapor pressure, freezing point depression, and boiling point elevation."
"Today, the student and I went through one of her most recent lectures regarding DNA repair. Specifically, we covered causes of DNA damage, types of errors, mechanisms of repair (NER, MMR, etc.), and diseases caused by DNA damage. I prompted her with questions and also had her explain concepts and slides in her own words. She showed very good understanding of the lecture."
"Today, the student and I worked on a comprehensive physics review packet for his AP Physics course, which included topics from mechanics, dynamics, simple harmonic motion, conservation of energy, and conservation of linear momentum."
"Today, the student and I worked on assessing what he needs to study for his science test coming up. We reviewed various topics, including the systems of the body, hypothesis, scientific experiments, puberty, and organization. I left him with an assignment to make index cards for studying. He demonstrated an excellent attitude toward the work."
