Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We studied reading comprehension (reading homework), I helped him with his math, and he wrote the final draft of his science lab."
"The student and I finished reading this month's chapter book and worked on the comprehension questions. I discussed a more comprehensive strategy for the next book to help him improve his retention and comprehension."
"Today the student and I read a book about George Washington. We then read a bit about Presidents. We then finished up by doing some reading comprehension worksheets."
"The concept covered in the student's lesson today was distinguishing between "b" and "d." First, I had him do a magnetic letter sort. He had to separate the two letters on a magnetic board. This was done very easily. He was also able to distinguish the letters in a phonics worksheet where he was asked to identify the letters. I gave him a sheet that has strategies to help him to remember the different letters when doing writing and reading activities. I suggested that he put it up somewhere to refer to it, and he stated that he would put it on his dresser. On whiteboards, he wrote words that rhyme with bed. I started reading the book, I Am Albert Einstein, and we will finish it at his next session. He helped by reading the speech balloons. He seemed to really enjoy the book!"
"The first portion of the session was dedicated to introducing the letter F and its sound. The student knew the letter and its sound without me telling him. He was able to circle pictures that begin with the letter F and trace both capital and lowercase F without assistance. He hesitated when writing them freehand, but with positive reinforcement, he gave it a try and did an excellent job.The last half of the session focused on reviewing letters A-F and their sounds. He repeated after me three times then did it himself. When identifying sounds and letters independently, he was able to do A-C and F correctly. We will stick with letter F and review A-F at our next session. I am also going to ask his mother to work on flashcards for A-F at home on a daily basis with him to aid in recall."
"The student and I continued to work on sight words and phoneme sounds. She is improving! She did well with sentence building today."
