"The student and I studied for hist test tomorrow, reviewing moles and unit conversion, primarily, and practicing how to get moles from grams, grams from moles, liters from moles, moles from liters, percent composition by mass from chemical formulae, and empirical and molecular formulae from percent composition by mass."
"We went over a lab determining the molar volume of hydrogen produced in a reaction of magnesium and hydrochloric acid. The lab included pre-lab questions, as well as post-lab calculations. We also went over a worksheet involving conversions using molarity as an intermediate."
"The student has started a new chapter on thermodynamics. We went over the first segment of material that he learned regarding entropy and enthalpy, and we introduced the concept of Gibbs free energy and did some practice problems relating to that topic as well."
"This week, we mainly studied for an upcoming quiz on ions. He has this material largely down and should be well prepared. We also worked ahead for quiz 2 (of 4), which he should also be prepared for. We also started working ahead towards writing and balancing reaction equations and the concept of moles."
"Today the student and I worked on his chemistry homework dealing with calculating frequency and wavelength given the other. Half the worksheet dealt with these problems and once he got the method down, he was able to complete those problems fairly easily. The second half of the worksheet focused on calculating the energy of a beam of light given either a frequency or wavelength. These problems were a bit tougher for him, but we were able to figure them out. We will go over his recent chemistry test in our next session."
"Today was all about kinetics. We worked through problems using the Arrhenius equation and worked through how to determine the order of reactions. We also got the order from plotting lnk vs. 1/T. There was still more to do when time ran out, but I told him the method for the next problem."
