"The student and I went over the topic of equilibrium. We watched videos on Le Chatelier's Principle and the Haber process. We discussed how equilibrium of a system can be affected by concentration, pressure, and temperature."
"The student has a test coming up tomorrow that we reviewed for. He is already good at the material and just had a couple problems. After we worked through that ( a couple issues with velocity, wavelength and energy) we began looking into what he would work on next. I gave him an overview of Lewis dot structure as well as Hund's rule, then went over some geometry."
"The student had a calculus test on Monday that she said went well. She will get it back on Friday. There was one bonus problem with differentiating implicitly that she wanted to go over. She was able to correctly differentiate the problem! We spent most of the session reviewing chemistry. Over the last few classes, she has been learning about buffers. We went over the problems from her notes on how to make buffers and how to calculate pH changes with buffers. She did very well with these problems and picked up the concepts quickly."
"Today the student and I met at the library to review material for her last biology assignment. We completed all of the tasks revolving around body mass index and she earned a B+ for the grade. Next she worked on her discussion post assignment, where she had to pick an enzyme to discuss and highlight what it does, the reactants, and products. She chose cellulase, the enzyme that hydrolyzes cellulose and breaks down the superficial layer of denim to make stonewashed jeans. After she submitted the assignment, we discussed what to study in prep for our next session."
"Tonight the student and I went over her homeostasis and transport chapter test as well as homework I assigned on Intro to Biology work. As always, the student did great with her homework and only had a few questions regarding the material. We continued to move forward with more themes of biology, including methods of obtaining food energy, different categories of where animals and plants fit in, and evolution and natural selection. The student did well with the new material and I will be sending her some homework to work on before the next session."
"We began to discuss genetics, more specifically, the work of Gregor Mendel and Punnett squares, along with the concept of dominant and recessive alleles. I will likely do more exercises on this topic next session simply to enhance the understanding of it, and make it so using Punnett squares comes more naturally. Next session, we will begin meiosis and discuss the process of genetic inheritance."
