Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we focused on the last chapter of the book, making sure the students understood every phrase and every grammar structure that was covered. We analyzed some idioms and a poem, did exercises in the workbook, practiced reading technique, and analyzed sentences. Then, we moved forward to a new chapter. Some of the materials in this chapter they have already studied with me before, so we went through it rather quickly. I gave them homework for the entire one month break; they need to do two chapters of worksheet and self study and practice all the new dialog and writing of vocab. When they come back from break, we'll go right in from Chapter 9."
"The student and I reviewed assigned vocabulary words from last session through repetition. We also learned and compared a few more regular and irregular -ar and -er/-ir verbs. He needs to spend more time studying vocabulary in order to learn new words. We are working on finding a corresponding workbook, and I will create quizzes and worksheets appropriate for the concepts and words he is learning."
"Today we learned some new clothing vocabulary and reviewed present tense verb conjugations. They are doing well in general, but need to focus a bit more on the e to ie stem-changing verbs. They are improving well and should continue to practice, focusing on the new clothing vocabulary before the next session."
"Today we put our recently learned verbs into real-life short sentences. The two tenses we are focusing on our present (indicative) and preterite (past). In the present, pedir follows the regular "ir" verb conjugations, but is irregular in the past tense. Decir is irregular in the present tense, and we haven't studied the past tense yet."
"Today the student and I studied the difference between the infinitive and conjugated verb forms. She is to practice conjugating the verbs given for next week. We also went over her vocab study list about planting. She learned the Spanish words for apple, carrot, to grow, to plant, seed, etc."
"The concepts that we covered this evening were sentences with voy a, vocabulary such as adjectives, colors, possessions, articles, and que es. The student knew most of the material and only needed help with a couple of male/ female articles. As always, she was attentive and participated throughout the session."
