Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student informed me that she got excellent grades on her French finals last semester! Yay! I was so happy to hear it. This week, we touched base as we hadn't had a session in a while. We went over the differences between dans, en, y, and a and how to use y and en to replace parts of sentences. Additionally, we made several vocab flashcards and memorized them. We finished everything that she wanted to go over and went forward in her book a bit, which was exciting. She is doing SO WELL, I am just amazed at her improvement!"
"The student and I went over his quiz he took on the imperfect and passé compose. He was failing this class in the beginning of the year, but he got an 84 on the quiz, and he currently has a C average in his class. We went over the quiz question by question to make sure he understood why he got the points he did. Most of his mistakes were due to rushing through the quiz, and I advised him to slow down, make charts, and organize his thoughts. I found out that he is more of a Math and Science learner than a Humanities learner, which will help tremendously on study habits. I suggested he makes the constructions into equations or formulas so that they'll make more sense to him, and he'll be able to understand the material more thoroughly. Our next session will be about his vocab quiz he's getting back today, and we will be practicing with those words."
"We covered comparative phrases and superlatives and went over his homework. We also covered imperfect and preterit conjugations and when each would be used. The student grasped it very well! I told him to study the commonly occurring verbs in his book because he can conjugate the verbs, but doesn't know exactly what they mean. Overall great job!"
"The student is working hard to make up for the gaps in her knowledge. Today's lesson we focused on the passe compose of reflexive verbs. I have asked her to make a list of the verbs that she should know so that we can work on them."
"Student 1: learned and practiced the poem to get ready for finals; questions and responses in the past tense; some translation; use of prepositions. Student 2: a lot of exercises on verbs in the present tense."
"Yesterday, the student and I went over some translation exercises together, practicing vocabulary he might encounter in restaurants in France. We ended the session by practicing conversation, which we will continue to do more as he gets closer to his trip."
