Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Brainstorming and planning for first research paper. We went over use of academic databases, how to find peer-reviewed articles, writing abstracts, and worked on a strategy for composing the first draft."
"The student and I reviewed Algebra II today in preparation for her quiz tomorrow. She's working on conic sections-- in particular, we worked on graphing them from equations and writing equations from graphs, especially of circles and ellipses. We also touched on calculating tangent lines given the center and a point on a circle, and a couple of real-world applications of these equations."
"Today, we covered chapter 5. We completed arithmetic and geometric sequences and sums. The student did a great job and is coming along nicely in mathematics. We completed all parts of chapter 5 except for the final quiz, which we will complete tomorrow."
"In this session, we covered points on the student's final review that were to be on her test preceding the final review. We covered the last part of her final review as a study guide for her third upcoming test."
"The student and I worked on area and perimeter today. He seems to really understand the concept of perimeter this time and was even able to recite the definition for me as soon as I came in (this was very tough for him last time). He is also able to figure out area and perimeter of rectangles and squares comfortably now (multiply L x W or add all the sides). We also did area of irregular shapes which was tricky for him (and I don't blame him). He had a hard time figuring out how many partial squares there were in a shape."
