"We wrote a story about his pencil that he won by first vocalizing the story, writing down bullet points, and then writing the actual story. We then looked at two of his favorite books and found five vocabulary words and I had him define them, then we looked up the proper definitions in the dictionary for comparison. He presented and read his story aloud to his mother and sister at the end."
"We worked on school newspaper article revisions, vocabulary and also grammar. I helped the student transfer what she knows about grammar to her writing."
"I edited a draft of paper on Iranian artists, sent by student, and returned this draft with corrections and comments."
"We went through and made structural edits to the essay so that it flowed better. Provided suggested edits for the introduction so that it better matched the updated text. I also provided suggested edits throughout the text."
"Today we focused on familiarizing the student with his new spelling words. He completed his spelling homework for the week and we made flashcards for all 20 of his words. We came up with a clapping game to help him remember how to spell each word. To spell each word, we would clap our hands together for the first letter and then clap our knees for the next letter, alternating until the word was finished. After practicing each word like this, I noticed that he would mutter the rhythm to himself as he spelled the word, and he was able to spell the word without any help. We then went over each flashcard 3 times, once to spell it, once to define the word and the third time to put it in a sentence. I also helped him with the word problems on his math homework."
"The student and I worked together to begin writing her essay. We outlined her main ideas, and we edited a paragraph she had written before our session. We then discussed how her essay should proceed, and we came up with a number of questions she should ask her professor in office hours to help make her final draft most effective."
