Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and I continued covering stoichiometry and molar relationships. We spent most of the class working through problems and getting her ready for her upcoming exam. She has a very good grasp of the concepts but she needs to keep practicing."
"We answered their homework about solutions - how to prepare solutions, colligative properties. We also reviewed the dimensional analysis and mole, and mass calculations."
"In this session, we continued on with gas chemistry in preparation for an upcoming quiz. He understood how to do most of the quantitative questions, but he wanted to hear my explanation of the relevant concepts again. He is a great client because he is genuinely interested in excelling in chemistry, and thus remains continually focused throughout our meetings. For quantitative questions, I reiterated the strategy of writing down all given information before deciding on a formula. For qualitative questions, I stressed the strategy of visualizing a balloon in order to deduce the relationship between variables like pressure, volume, and temperature. He had a few other uncompleted practice questions, so I suggested that he finish these in order to gain some extra confidence with regards to the section. He has gotten A's on all classwork, quizzes, and tests since beginning with me, so I think that he's progressed as well as possible."
"Today we covered DNA replication, transcription, and translation. We began the session by reviewing some evolution and genetics questions. We then reviewed and discussed the challenging aspects involved in DNA to mRNA to proteins. The student is very good at staying focused and asking questions when a concept does not make sense. In addition, he grasps the overall picture very quickly and he is very impressive at reviewing old material while learning new information. We also discussed the differences between codons, anticodons, and amino acids. The student is going to finish reading the rest of Chapter 8 in the book and we are going to do practice questions with this material at the next session. We are also going to review different types of mutations and recombinant DNA. Overall, this was a great session because we covered some of the most difficult aspects of biology."
"Tonight we started material that will be covered on the final, including an intro to the female reproductive system including function/ locations of most of the major organs. We touched briefly on some of the main hormones, but will continue to work more in depth with the material. I will also be giving the student additional practice for review. Overall this was a great session, as always."
"We did the chapter on animal nutrition, which primarily covered the aspects of the digestive system, as well as various adaptations for different diets, mutualistic relationships, and regulation mechanisms for nutrient intake and use."
