Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's assigned homework from school: more practice finding the perimeters and areas of triangles, squares, and rectangles. His homework also started on the concept of finding the area and circumference of circles. He really seems to be grasping all of these concepts, and he completed his homework with little help from me. After his assigned schoolwork, we worked through word problems that required the geometric concepts he's working on in school. Again, he had little trouble with everything we covered in the session."
"I specifically covered the topics on her quiz tomorrow: area, perimeter, circumference, volume, irregular figures, and Pythagorean theorem. The only concept she struggled with was 45/45/90 triangle problems. After a couple of problems I feel that she definitely gets the hang of it now. I left her practice accordingly."
"Today we finished his practice exam one and went over strategies for test taking as well as identifying areas of improvement that we can work on. We identified that the most vital area is factoring. We then took some time to work through the California method of pictorial factoring that I think he will take to as a visual way to factor trinomials. I left him with a practice quiz and a walkthrough on the California method."
"We reviewed for the student's test. We worked on finding slope giving two points, the uses of the point-slope and slope-intercept forms, and perpendicular vs parallel lines."
"We worked on graphing quadratics. We focused on identifying the vertex and axis of symmetry in the calculator. The student seems to understand what she's doing after walking through the axis of symmetry examples for a few problems."
"The student and I reviewed the general procedure for factoring trinomials. He seems to have trouble with finding factors that add up to the middle term. He caught on after a few problems, and we will practice working on these problems more in our next session."
