Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over a practice MCAT passage that dealt with vectors as well as a few discreet questions that dealt with a multitude of topics: projectile motion, kinematics, acid-base dissociation, optics, and nuclear decay. Overall, she needed quite a refresher in most of these physical science topics that we covered, which is not surprising given that she has typically had more trouble in this section as opposed to the biological science passages. She did forget key optics equations that we covered in the past, but most of the topics that we covered today were ones that we didn't go as much into detail for a while now. She will really need to keep working at these physical science topics to solidify her understand."
"Today, the student and I reviewed the excretory and reproductive systems. We began by going over some practice problems that she got incorrect. She seemed to recognize her mistakes immediately and would often describe the correct understanding before I had a chance to speak. I then quizzed her on the renal and GI systems, checking for understanding. She regularly answered my questions with ease and hardly had to look back in her text for answers. She is a very bright student with an incredible memory. We then briefly discussed the reproductive system."
"We spent the session covering a vast amount of material in preparation for the approaching exam. We covered the majority of testable physics formulas and concepts supplemented with practice problems to strengthen skills. We also covered organic chemistry reactions, specifically the differences involved in substitution and elimination reactions. Finally we covered laboratory separation techniques and the important information to take from the charts and graphs that accompany them. Overall, I feel the session was a success. The student did a great job of asking questions, grasping material, and solving problems."
"The student and I went over physics and chemistry passages. She did an amazing job, and the few problems she missed, we went over conceptually and then moved on. She will go over any topics she missed and continue to study all of her materials."
"Today we talked about scores and normalization of scores and what the student's recent practice tests might mean. We also did some calculations with powers and discussed how to convert numbers to exponents and reviewed the fact that you add exponents when you multiply by powers of 10. We also looked at an axon problem that involved voltage and the distance you would need to set the leads to test for voltage."
"We reviewed some physics, psychology, math, biology and verbal reasoning in final prep for the student's MCAT on Friday. She is more prepared for the sciences than she is the verbal. I advised her that if she is not happy with her scores on Friday that we are always available."
