"The student told me about the new German teacher and where he is in "Komm Mit" (Chapter 5). We went over ways to express regret and how to downplay in answers. He finished homework for class that exercises the expression of regret and after that I asked him to give me a couple of examples which we then discussed."
"This evening was my first meeting with the student. I asked him about his background and his thoughts about college -- I like to get an idea of a new student's overall goals. We worked on terms for his vocabulary quiz tomorrow. He does very well memorizing the English equivalent to German words. The note card system he's adopted for this subject and others seems to work very well for him -- after we took time for him to transfer the vocabulary to index cards, his memorization rate was much quicker. I'm looking forward to using my German on a regular basis! I can also assist in expository writing and other humanities assignments."
"The student and I worked on a couple of exercises in her workbook and then studied a list of words in preparation for a spelling bee. She is really good at spelling! We went over the pronunciation of letters as well so that she had them fresh in her mind. She finished up the session by finishing up some trigonometry homework she had."
"We covered dative objects and expressing pain, sickness, wellness, and hopes. The student would benefit with more practice with pronouns, possessive pronouns, and articles in the different persons and cases. I made him a sheet of practice problems dealing with these concepts."
"The session started with practicing reading and understanding and went on with conversation. The student's pronunciation is mostly very good, and he needs to practice speaking to become more fluent and confident in using the right words, in the correct form, at the right time. He seems very disciplined and eager to learn. After this first session I now have a good idea about what he needs to practice and how to proceed, and what to prepare for next time."
"We went over the passive voice, konjunktiv I and II, adjective endings, two-way prepositions, infinitive clauses, and general pronouns like "man." This consisted mostly of me explaining concepts and asking the student to provide me with examples to demonstrate her understanding. She seems to have a decent grasp of these concepts in practice, though she might need some brushing up. Next time we plan to work more on prepositions."
