Archaeology Tutoring FAQ

Archaeology is the study of the material remains of past cultures. With archaeology tutoring, you can open the door to the vast reaches of human history. Written history, after all, covers only the last several thousand years, while anatomically modern humans have lived on Earth for hundreds of thousands of years. Archaeology is the only means we have of unraveling that enormous span of time. One of the most rewarding aspects of an archaeology course is that the skills you learn are applicable anywhere in the world. Like most sciences, archaeology is intended to be verifiable, but learning its techniques and theories can be tremendously frustrating. The subjects covered range from the trivial, such as how to handle a trowel on digs, to the more profound concepts. For instance, human remains are often found in the course of an archaeological excavation, and many archaeology classes will address the legal, practical, and moral issues surrounding this situation. This is where archaeology tutoring can be particularly useful.

Varsity Tutors can connect you with reputable and experienced archaeology tutors from all over the world. Their educational directors are prepared to work with you to create a student profile that gives tutors a glimpse into your needs. Your chosen tutor will factor in a wide range of details to create a plan that is specifically for you from your learning style to your course syllabus to your testing dates. With personalized tutoring, you are able to focus on your own needs, while gaining valuable feedback that can help further develop the skill set you will need to succeed.

I began by congratulating the student on the excellent result she achieved on the second exam. Next, we discussed the upcoming exam on DNA replication and transcription. We decided to begin work on Problem Sets #7 and #8. We covered concepts related to DNA banding experiments, the role of helicase in DNA replication, the difference between leading and lagging strands during replication, the differences between various types of polymerases, Okazaki fragments, polymerase chain reaction, primer and experimental design, DNA synthesis, next-generation sequencing, cancer genomics, and mutation repair mechanisms. She has a good understanding of these concepts, especially since she appears to pay close attention during lectures and takes thorough notes on the lecture slide handouts. We agreed to meet after the weekend was through for continued review before Thursday's exam.

Today the student and I prepared for her upcoming exam over chapters 11 and 12 in her textbook. Topics reviewed included: Meiosis, Mendelian genetics (independent assortment, monohybrid, dihybrid crosses, and evaluating pedigrees), sexual vs asexual reproduction and patterns of disease inheritance. I left her with a variety of review guides and worksheets to provide her with extra practice.

The student and I reviewed facts on natural selection, evolution, and evidence of selection in populations. There have been two chapters covered in class since the last time he and I met, so we reviewed most of those two chapters through power point slides and with class worksheets. He recently had an exam and scored an 88, which he was pleased with and he seems comfortable with the new material. There is an exam coming up in a week and we will meet again before it.
