Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed present tense conjugations with pronouns. We practiced "gustar + infinitive" phrases and did a Spanish speaking review."
"The student mastered tense changing verbs and practiced reflective verbs. The student is studying daily and writing down his scores."
"We discussed compound tenses and reflexive verbs. We watched a few videos on daily routines and narrated them using both compound tenses and reflexive verbs."
"Today, the student and I completed another lesson. We began with a quick conversational review over the date, day of the week, months, and ordinal numbers. We are reinforcing vocabulary terms and regularly using preterite construction in our warm-up questions. Today, we focused on reviewing vocabulary that we've introduced in previous lessons. We particularly focused on homophones and other similar-sounding words/phrases. We also spent time reviewing the preterite tense of the verb ir and went over the difference between the expression vamos and vamonos. We are working together on responding using the correct subject pronoun and using the correct personal ending. He occasionally confused the subject pronouns when he's asking a question or responding, but we will continue to improve on that. I've asked him to work on reviewing his flashcards on his own to help build his vocabulary base."
"Today's class went as well as could be expected. We reviewed present tense verbs for 15 minutes. Then we covered how to speak about the weather. Finally we covered idiomatic terms with tener. I told the student that we were at a bit of a standstill because I can't move on to more complex material until she masters present tense conjugations. I also told her that I'd like to move on to the preterite tense by the end of the month, but it will require more time on her part outside of class, so that I don't need to review past lessons at the beginning of each one. She seemed receptive and I look forward to her continued progress."
"Today's session covered a review on vocabulary material. The students were encouraged to practice and review vocabulary terms last week in order to complete a practice quiz with me to help them gain new vocabulary terms and learn to use them in conversations. The first student seems to be understanding and keeping up with the target language. We are working on finding synonyms for words he uses in order to make his Spanish skills more fluent and getting his register up another level. The second student has made great progress but still seems to doubt himself when he is speaking. He knows and understands instructions in Spanish but becomes uncomfortable and unresponsive when he feels he may say something wrong. We are working on learning new vocabulary and practicing them in sentences so that he feels comfortable and knowledgeable on how to use them. For their next session, I have advised them to continue their review on vocabulary."
