Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Covered optimization word problems and problems where we had to find local maxes and mins. Once he knew what to do, he had little trouble executing. Like always, the student remained very motivated throughout the session and was great to work with."
"The student and I worked through the calculus concepts surrounding the second derivative test, as well as reviewed material from his recent statics test. He did well with the calculus, especially once it was attached to a real-world example, but the concepts behind statics needed some work. I imagine we will have to revisit more statics as we progress with his tutoring."
"Today the student and I worked on a take home test that dealt with integration by parts, u substitution and trig integration. He is getting better at the material but still needs practice. He will get better the more he practices the different techniques."
"Played Math tank with student which covered long division, mixed and whole numbers, adding and subtracting fractions. Student has gotten better at fractions."
"The student is continuing into combinations and probability with another worksheet from his teacher. This one is in preparation for a quiz. He understands probability intuitively, and so problems in which fractions need to be added or multiplied make sense to him. The probability space of a roulette wheel or a spinning game also makes sense. The problems involving choosing combinations from a greater pool of possibilities are a little tougher. We worked on the differences between choosing seating arrangements or menu items using the combination factorial equations. Most of the worksheet was easy for him, including the concept of not replacing a chosen item, from a deck of cards or a bag of colored marbles, and then calculating the probability with each successive choice."
"The student is currently working on an end of the year project, so we covered linear regression models and how to enter them into Excel."
