Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had 2 sheets of questions from school. She asked to work on it. There were 3 questions related to applications. We have to understand the questions asked clearly in order to get to answer. The questions were analyzed to determine which approach to take for her. I suggested she review similar questions in the book. I will help her with sending her questions till next class."
"Tonight I showed the student how to perform independent research and then how to analyze this research via his writing. We polished up his table of World Series winners and then wrote a few paragraphs about the data."
"Reviewed the essay he had prepared yesterday, gave constructive criticism. We went over several more prompts using our formula. He said that he felt much better and more organized about his writing process now."
"The student and I read half of Fancy Nancy today. She read well and quickly but had difficulty with a couple words (fascinating, orbit, etc). Then we worked on numbers. We worked on numbers 150 forward and backward. I gave the student number cards and asked her to place the numbers (150) on the floor while timed. She did well and the timing factor seemed to motivate her. We also worked on subtraction. "
"The student and I met from 10:3012pm. We completed his worksheets over ellipses, and hyperbolas before continuing work over his final exam review. We spent time going over polynomial factoring and learning the different log rules. Altogether, although some of the review remained, he had a firm grasp on the concepts we reviewed, and will likely have no problems completing the remainder of the review."
"The student and I worked on sequencing and graphing numbers. She had no problems filling out the tables, graphing the results, and noticing the patterns in the sequence. In this session, we focused more on writing the functions based on the sequence written. The simple ones came to her more easily, but she needed work on the more complicated ones. She completed her homework and did additional problems involving creating functions. She began to understand better by the end of the session."
"The student found out that he would start taking his make up quizzes and tests this week. We went over material for his first missed quiz (which is the same material for the first test). Material included motion graphs, reading these graphs, and calculating values such as average velocity and instantaneous velocity. We also worked on using one graph to produce the other two graphs by either taking the slope at given points or finding the area under the curve."
"The student is getting better with his reading passage problems, and also with strategy. We worked more on reading passages (pp. 7879), math strategies, and improving sentences (pp. 138145). "
"Today we focused on improving the student's writing through use of emotive imagery. I administered multiple writing exercises challenging him to describe memories and places with imagery and to try to impart emotion into the spaces he was creating with words."
"We reviewed the formula for the area of a parallelogram and its derivation as well as the application of vectors in forming this shape or to perform a reflection. While working on the reflection problem, we reviewed the algebra associated with fractions, which the student seems to be getting much better at. We touched on three dimensional space near the end."
"Student 1: went through a review assignment on the computer, focusing on logarithms, functions, and simplifying algebraic expressions.
Student 2: reviewed properties of quadrilaterals and performing functions with radicals."
Student 2: reviewed properties of quadrilaterals and performing functions with radicals."
"We finished her homework assignment for her ECE lab. We also finished her rough draft of her future focus plan. We discussed what additional courses she would need to complete her complete her associates degree, which is part of the future focus plan."
