How can LSAT tutoring help you succeed?

All aspiring lawyers must take the Law School Admission Test, or LSAT. This five-section exam is mostly multiple choice, and is required to gain entry into law school. Most law schools create their admissions criteria based on an applicant's grade point average and their LSAT score. If you're interested in pursuing further education and a career in law, it couldn't hurt to contact Varsity Tutors, who may assist you in finding an independent professional LSAT tutor in Ann Arbor, MI.

The LSAT covers a wide range of topics including analytical reasoning (or logic games), logical reasoning, reading comprehension, and a written essay. These sections examine your ability to find the main points of an argument in written material, understand the effects of various court decisions, and to draw inferences from written materials. The experimental section of the test tries out future LSAT questions and does not affect your score. The essay section is also not scored, but law schools receive that sample with your applications and test scores. The exam is scored from 120 to 180. You may boost your odds of success by preparing for your exam with a professional LSAT tutor in Ann Arbor. You'll get 35 minutes to answer questions in each section. It is important to answer every question because the raw score (roughly a point per question) is converted to the 120-180 scale.

Ann Arbor, MI LSAT tutoring
The student and I worked on grouping games and pure sequencing games. We will finish hybrid and the forgotten few by Monday to start RC. She missed a few questions due to incorrectly diagramming conditional rules as blocks.

We began the session by talking about scheduling/ setting aside enough time to prepare for the exam. We worked through notes and problem sets for assumption/ justify problems. For next time, the student is going to review notes for MBT and main point questions. She'll also do the Powerscore problem sets for those questions.

The student and I reviewed two practice sections she took. She is doing better on logical reasoning, and is now scoring at her goal score for that section. On logic games her accuracy has improved, but her pacing is still behind where we would like. We worked on a reading comprehension section after that. She scored 20/27, which is the minimum score we would like her to attain. We went over some ways to improve the accuracy of this section. We finished by going over some logic games, focusing on ways to improve efficiency with deductions.

We maintained our pattern of delving deeply into more complex logic games in order to promote mental agility. Also covered were three reading comp passages, each one representing the "genre" usually covered by the LSAT.

We covered relative ordering/ sequencing logic games and multi-level ordering logic games. The student had a good attitude, as always, towards the material, even though the material was difficult. She struggled a bit with the relative ordering logic game, but we worked on strategies, including diagramming, eliminating incorrect answer choices, and using the main model to come to the answer choice more quickly. She just received her LSAT prep books and I have assigned her a number of questions from those books. I believe that her practicing the questions in between sessions will help her better approach the logic games.

Worked on RC section - the student found two problems that seemed difficult, so we really focused on how to get the "big picture" of a reading comp passage when the material is dense and foreign to her specialty (both passages were about the philosophy of consciousness). The big takeaways were that on these denser passages, it is OK to spend a little more time on the passage if it means gaining the bigger understanding. She found that the questions were much easier and she actually passed through them more quickly than when she spent less time on the passage and was more perplexed about the information while attacking the problems. A good strategy shift for test taking that showed her that adjusting based on the question can be a great idea, rather than telling yourself that you only have X amount of time to read and X amount of time per question.
