Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we talked through the courses the student is taking this term and which courses I'll be able to help him with. Most of his courses (English Lit/English Language, US History, Advanced Pre-Calculus) we'll be able to get a lot of productive work done. We spent most of the session focused on English, and in particular the poetic analysis of two poems. We talked about the various different layers of poetry and the various levels of analysis necessary to understand the poem. The student is always fun to work with."
"The student and I prepared for his first test. We finished up the chapter test we began the last session. We worked out all of the problems and made sure to read the question being asked. I found out that he has a tendency to not fully read the directions first. He just starts working on the problem even before he knows what they are asking him to do. This is going to be one of the things we focus on."
"This session was primarily focused on helping the student with a topic and information and creating a rough draft for his 9th grade application. When that was completed he worked on mathematical achievement on the ISEE test."
"Our last week for the SAT, this week the student and I went over her writing portion of the SAT. She does really well with the grammar and wrote a great essay. We also looked over the reading section one more time. The student knows what to do, is confident with the test, and should do well. We will be back to the ACT next week!"
"The student is now working on fractions and decimals. We each do the problems on paper and then compare our answers. Her mother told me that the test that the class took before the winter holidays showed a significant improvement in her math skills."
"This was a great first introduction with the student. We spoke on the specifics of his focus and the timing as to when he'd like to start working on assignments. He will provide me with a much more detailed schedule ASAP and we'll work to that."
