Today, the student and I worked on multiplying, dividing and simplifying fractions, converting fractions/mixed numbers to decimals, as well as ratio related work problems. At the very end of our session, we even had time to play a 5 minute multiplication board game. Afterwards, I left behind notes/practice problems for him to review.

The student and I went over math and his map of Canada. I ensured that he knew how to solve his math problems correctly and showed him where he went wrong on the problems he missed, and on the map of Canada I helped him identify the features he needed to color.

Tutoring review by Leora-Dona in Hawaiian Gardens, CA
On Sunday we began working on how to multiply and divide fractions. I introduced the student to this type of problem, as they will be covering it in greater detail during class this week. Because he has been having trouble understanding them, we completed many word problems in these two subject areas and noticed how similar the wording is, which makes it challenging to know when to multiply or divide the fractions. He did very well with the mathematical process of coming to a solution for each problem. We will have to emphasize looking back at what the question is actually asking for in future sessions so that he is providing the correct response.

The student and I worked on writing the equations for parabolas and circles. I feel that she understands the concepts but makes simple calculation errors when it comes to solving for X. For example, subtracting a constant on both sides of the equation when it should be added to both sides of the equation.

Today, the student and I reviewed polynomial multiplication, and we went ahead and learned polynomial and synthetic division. Both of these concepts will be taught this week in class, so I introduced them to him early. We practiced multiple problems. Synthetic division came easy to him. I feel that with more practice and doing the rest of his homework for the week, he will do well on his test on Friday.
