"Today was the second session with the student. She has a strong grasp on chemistry and is struggling more with her math class so we have been spending more time on math. Today for chemistry we went over calculating the Ka values from a given Kb value, she has not learned anything else since our first meeting three days ago. For precalculus we went over graphing equations again (including a practice quiz that they had on Friday, which included calculating inverses), as well as starting covering the next subject that she will cover in math, exponentials."
"During my session with the student we reviewed the topics that we covered last week as he has a test this week. The topics involved solving logarithmic equations, and equations where the unknowns are in the exponent. He knew how to work most of the problems by himself, however, he stumbled on a few complicated which I explained to him. Furthermore, we solved a few problems that will not be on his test, but will benefit him to know."
"Worked on review packet for upcoming test. Topics included synthetic division of polynomials, Descartes rule of signs, end function behavior, and identifying characteristics of the graph of a function given its equation. The student seems to have a solid grasp on things at this stage."
"Today, we went over a practice quiz worksheet that the student was given in preparation for an upcoming quiz. The worksheet covered inverse trigonometric functions and relationships as well as some review of trigonometric identities. The student had a good grasp on the properties of inverse trigonometric functions, but did need some help understanding some of their applications and how to use them in some problems. After some guidance while working on problems together, he seemed to have a better understanding of the functions and their uses. He also felt more comfortable and prepared."
"In precalculus, we went over how to graph the functions with finding the number of times the function crosses the xaxis and knowing what the graph looks like. We also went over some physics problems, many dealing with projectile motion."
"Today we covered the homework and material that will be on the student's test tomorrow. We went through word problems that set up quadratic formulas, and also solve math problems that involved quadratics and various substitution methods. He also had a few word problems that involved creating a system of equations in order to solve the problems. I did not see any grade or quiz scores, but I did see an improvement in the way he tackles word problems. Usually he is really intimidated by word problems but tonight he tackled them head on and got most of the information he needed from the words."
"The student did markedly better on the exam that he took on Friday, earning a C. We reviewed the problems for which he lost points on the exam, and identified the conceptual difficulties underlying the mistakes that he did make. Unsurprisingly, almost all of the points that he lost involved relatively elementary algebra mistakes. We reviewed ideas about order of operations and exponents, and I left him with a sheet of notes in order to model how he might correct tests on his own in the future. We finished the session by reviewing new content for the week, which included transformations of parent functions. He showed good ability to remember the form of the questions that his teacher will ask on an exam, and we will focus on deepening his conceptual understanding of remedial issues (algebraic manipulations) and course content."
"The student and I went over the topics on his first test for his PreCalc class. He said he did not do too well, but the class has the opportunity for a retake over the next week. We reviewed topics that will be on the retake and completed exercises for his "earn back" problem set. He has very sound fundamentals for his math background."
"Today we went over converting between degrees and radians, angular speed, area of sectors and arc length.
The student did very well with most of these topics. I saw improvement during the session in her familiarity with radians  this will get better when she starts using the unit circle more frequently."
"We went over items on her test outline. We looked at more equations of lines and circles, midpoint and Pythagorean Theorem applications, formulas for volume and area, and solving polynomials. The student felt confident in her knowledge of this test's material."
"The student has a precalc test tomorrow so we reviewed all her material up until Tuesday. I showed her a couple different methods to calculate some problems, regarding the unit circle as well as triangle ratios."
"For this session, the student had a practice test available, so we started working through some of the problems. Mainly we covered linear and quadratic equations. Moving forward, we will focus on the process of simplifying and solving for quadratic equations, but overall she understood the concepts. Next session is Friday, and I plan to bring practice quadratic problems and review the practice test she sent me."
