Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I had the student work on some reading and writing worksheets where he read and answered questions. Then he read from a Dr. Seuss book."
"Read a chapter from Mike Edison's "I Have Fun," completed vocabulary exercises, reviewed prior assignments, and assigned new writing, reading, and research work for next session."
"We covered rounding, place value, mean/ medium/ mode and division. In reading we talked about inferring."
"We practiced sight words. The student is progressing well. He has very good recognition of many of his sight words. Next session, he will be able to graduate those he's already mastered. He read a Level 2 book. We decoded words as needed and worked on some reading comprehension. We discussed a prediction, made connections from the story, summarized after 4-8 sentences, identified details in the story, and discussed each character's point of view. We also reviewed reading and verbalizing blends: cc and ccv."
"We quickly reviewed finding main idea and how to look back in the text selection for information to support answer choice. We covered concept RL.3 (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.) The student did really well with this standard. He was able ask questions that were relevant to the selected topic. He also provided meaningful answers to the questions asked. He was given extra practice for standard RL 3.1. I will follow up with progress in our next session."
"We read "In and Out" all 8 pages. The student did picture walk, predictions, and strategies to decode words, including sound-it-out and first letter sound. We read "Q is for Duck" and played a few letter games. Next week we will begin practicing writing letters. We'll also work on names of shapes per mom's request, and continue to work on easy books and alphabet letter sounds."
