Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued reviewing half-angle trigonometric equations and also solving algebraic equations with square roots. She has an upcoming test on this subject on Tuesday that she should do well in. We also continued to practice solving basic trigonometric equations using the unit circle and angles in radians. She seems to be getting a lot more comfortable working with different trig functions and recognizing which trig equation to use. Overall it was a good session."
"During today's session, I worked with the student to prepare for an upcoming quiz in Geometry. We reviewed and solved practice problems involving regular polygons, special right triangles, circles, sectors, area ratios, and geometric probability. We completed over five pages of notes! The student indicated that she felt better prepared and would take time during the week to review the concepts further."
"The student and I worked through her worksheet on vectors. As we worked through practice problems I broke down the final solution into simple steps and explained how to interpret the terminology from the problem. I also gave her some tips for checking her answers. Finally I had her take a practice quiz that covered everything we worked on- she did well on it."
"Tonight we prepared for his upcoming test on trigonometry. We worked through the review questions, and for the most part he was able to do the assignment on his own and has a strong understanding of the concepts. My role was watching over to make sure he was not making any mistakes in his math. The concepts involved topics such as converting between radians and degrees, graphing trig functions if given an equation and applying the correct shifts in period and amplitude to the baseline function, and understanding the properties of the baseline functions such as the period and critical values as well as domain and ranges. He had a lot of confidence in working through the problems and will be well prepared for his upcoming test. We will meet again to prepare for his final next week."
"In the session today we covered the law of cosines. Overall the student seemed more comfortable with the trig functions than he did a few days ago. He catches on to new concepts quickly and has a solid understanding of algebra, which is very helpful. He had a test yesterday and said that he was much more comfortable with the information after our previous session."
"In this session, the student and I finished the review sheets for her upcoming midterm. She has a very good understanding of the material, and only struggled a tiny bit during the session when it came to the graphing of conics. However, she was able to correct her mistakes quickly, and now knows what to watch out for. Once we finished the review sheet, we worked on some additional problems dealing with exponential growth and decay, and I suggested she look up half-life examples so she could give those one more review before the final."
