Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, the student worked on reviewing of short a words and read his word list and a short story without missing a word! Great job! Then he worked on single digit addition/subtraction and did great. We read a story about the life of a worm and he answered the questions orally."
"The student and I continued reviewing ACT math. He did well with the algebra section, but will need work with trigonometry going forward, since he has not gone over it in school yet. Overall, he is making progress, and continues to work on the science section at home, bringing any questions he has with him when we meet."
"The student and I went over some of his precalculus homework for a test he has tomorrow. We went over log and ln and talked about some of the identities and problems you can solve with them. We also talked about the power rule and how to solve problems with that. We also went over the equation Pe^rt and talked about its application in word problems."
"During this session, the student and I continued our study of sensory language, personification, and poetic literary devices in understanding theme and purpose in poetry. In particular, we looked at "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus, beginning with looking at new vocabulary in order to understand the story of the poem. Afterwards, I asked him to draw the various details describing the demeanor of the statue in addition to her surroundings in New York Harbor. Finally, we analysed her statements in the poem as it related to the concept of America as a welcome to the immigrants of the world. He struggled, but did extremely well interpreting the poem and answering a majority of the reading comprehension questions following the passage. My hope is that his skills in reading comprehension will generalize to other types of passages."
"This was our last session. The student has improved immensely since we began sessions. She is now confident on all sections of the exam and is consistently scoring in her goal range. She will do well on Saturday."
"We completed 20 practice problems for the SSAT online. We covered several word problems, and algebraic expressions. The student is just learning the rules for multiplying negative integers. The student is very focused and eager to learn."
