Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the PowerPoints and handouts in detail to prepare for her exam. She took detailed notes in her notebook, and began filling out the notecard that will be worth three points extra credit for the exam. We have made a lot of progress from Saturday to Tuesday in her understanding of the subject material, and we should devote at least three days of review before each biology test, because there is a lot of material to cover."
"The student and I reviewed theorems involving corresponding angles, and how to apply them to triangle congruence proofs. He has a firm grasp of key concepts and definitions, but had some trouble applying them to proofs. Redrawing and reorienting problems so that they look more like previous diagrams he is familiar with is a helpful strategy, and he had no more troubles. For the next session, I plan to continue working on strategies to apply theorems to proofs, and will prepare several practice problems to work through together."
"The student and I reviewed transversals intersecting one or two parallel lines. The review problems included some algebra practice in the form of expressions that needed to be equated in order to solve for a variable, which was necessary to solve for one or more angle measures. The student understood the relationships between angles created by transversals and parallel lines, but he was confused about the algebra portions, since this year he is taking geometry and probably hasn't had much algebra practice since last year. I encouraged him to continue solving problems from that problem set so that he can be prepared for any questions he might get in class involving the use of algebra to solve geometry problems."
"The student and I specifically covered the SAS, SSS, AAS, and HL theorems. He was receptive to any and all suggestions. I showed him a few ways to improve the quality and readability of his work for himself, as well as the teacher. I asked him to continue to use the resources on the website to help give him more exposure. His test scores have improved significantly. A win from this session is that he better understands proofs and how to write them."
"The student and I spent a lot of time studying for his test on chapter 5. We mainly practiced creating detailed and efficient proofs. He did a very excellent job solving problems and will be well prepared for his upcoming exam!"
"The student and I spent our time preparing for her upcoming final in geometry. We worked through several problems from all of the different units for the semester, and for the most part, she had a pretty good idea on how to approach the problems. A couple were a bit challenging for her, but she was able to understand them once I helped explain the logic behind them. I also provided some additional test taking tips to help her more effectively work through her exam and to avoid silly mistakes. She seemed to have a good understanding of most of the concepts and should do well on her exam."
