Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on repetition and drills of letter/sound relationships, specifically targeting letters A and B and the student practiced writing names."
"Today, the student read a phonics book. We also read a longer book and reviewed long versus short vowels, as well as blends. We will delve further into blends next time."
"The student completed three more R&C lessons, answering 24 of 30 questions correctly. Our final session for this package is next Tuesday."
"We finished reading a book that the student had checked out from the library and worked on for Language Arts. We also read a nonfiction selection on Cyberbullying Crackdown, and she completed comprehension questions from it."
"Today, the student and I practiced her reading and tested her comprehension by playing a board game I created. The board game consists of cards with facts about the planets in our solar system and a short verse for each of the planets. She read the verses first, then as we played the game she answered questions about facts that were in the verses. Each time she got a question correct, she earned a point in the game. She is usually unwilling to read, but for this game she did the required reading and her comprehension, based on her ability to answer questions, was good."
"The student read through chapter 22 of Infinity Ring over the weekend and collected a list of new vocabulary words. While I read through her essay, she looked up the new words. This also gave her an opportunity to practice systematically looking up words in the dictionary (using the header words, going through by letter). Her new words include anxious, satisfied, comical, frequency, revival, modern, menacing, destruction, Renaissance, flabbergasted, monastery, particle, and medieval. We will go over the essay in our next session. For homework, I asked her to read chapters 23 and 24 of Infinity Ring and write a four-paragraph essay describing two new characters in the book (Gloria and Eyeball)."
