Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"My twelfth session with the student went well. We discussed the Verbal section of the practice exam that she took. She feels that she was most challenged by the Sentence Correction questions on the practice exam, but overall, she felt confident about her progress. We moved to the assigned practice questions from the Data Sufficiency section of the GMAT guide. The student answered the majority of the questions correctly. She noted that she was having trouble when faced with ratios and work problems, so I pointed out questions in the Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency sections that she should go through again as practice. This will help her feel more comfortable with the concepts, and we will continue to practice these problems until she reaches that comfort level. Finally, we reviewed the assigned practice questions from the Sentence Correction section. The student answered the majority of these questions correctly as well. When we went over the questions that she answered incorrectly, she understood where she had gone wrong and why the correct answer was the best choice. Since the student still has the most difficulty with Data Sufficiency and Sentence Correction questions, for our next session, she will complete practice questions from the Data Sufficiency and Sentence Correction sections of the GMAT guide."
"Today we reviewed geometry and "oddball" word problems from the GMAT prep book. We reviewed problems he'd struggled with and did new ones. We continued on to work on Data Sufficiency problems together."
"The student and I discussed the overall application process, goals and responsibilities, composition of the exam and the student's expectations of himself, the test, and the school. I assigned the student to take an assessment test before our next session."
"The student and I talked yesterday about which sections she wanted to work on most, her overall study schedule and materials, and goals. We started off with looking at a test she took covering stereochemistry, lab techniques, spectroscopy, and methods of memorizing reactions and reagents. We spent some time with each section of the assessment test, but focused on methods for angle ranking, hole punching, and TFE. A very productive and fun session!"
"This session, we started by fixing the student's schedule to accommodate her moving her test back. Once we figured out when she is studying what, I told her the breakdown of the test in terms of the order and timing. Once that was settled, we decided should would take a practice test some time soon to get a feel for the overall test. I ended up quickly teach the relevant section so that she understood what she was looking at when she takes the practice test. I also explained the reading technique briefly. She is going to stick to the study schedule, and the next sessions will be me testing her knowledge of what she has been studying the past few days to make sure she is studying the correct info."
"We worked on random flashcards. Topics included stoichiometry, pH vs pOH, meiosis, heart anatomy, behavioral flashcards, etc. We also discussed a plan going forward in the remaining days before the exam."
