Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked on kinetics and equilibrium. He has a chemistry test tomorrow, so I felt today's session helped reinforce his understanding on the topic. I feel that he will do well on his test tomorrow and I look forward to meeting with him next week."
"We covered acid/base equilibrium and how to identify an acid from a base. She was super happy and excited to learn the material. I feel like she really understands it and enjoys chemistry. She struggled the most with figuring how to start the problems. After she got started, she knew exactly what to do. Also, she had trouble on figuring out when to use Kb vs Ka only because she wasn't sure how to set up the rxn. But she seem to have gotten the hang of it towards the end of our session."
"The student has been doing better in class. He has a test coming up this week. We continued to both review topics and look ahead. We used the textbook to introduce intermolecular attractive forces. We continued to review ionic and covalent bonding and characteristics, Lewis dot structures, VSEPR, and polarity. I continued to have him take notes, since this is not something he does extensively either during class or for homework. Another strategy we used was choosing end-of-chapter questions from the textbook. Since his teacher does not cover every textbook topic, it is sometimes hard for him to pick out relevant questions. I suggested that in the future he ask his teacher for recommended questions."
"Today the student and I worked on material from her new chemistry unit on concentration, molarity, and dilutions. The worksheet also included some old concepts on stoichiometry, balancing equations, and limiting reactants. We were able to get through the whole worksheet, and she understood the material like a chemistry master."
"In today's session we continued our discussion of the student's homework problems. I reviewed exothermic and endothermic reactions briefly and then he applied those definitions to the chemical reactions in his class assignment. We then further expanded upon this concept by working through a few more example problems."
"The student and I covered acids, bases, acid-bases titrations, specific heat, and acid-bases labs. We reviewed several problem sets in each topic. She felt much better after our session. I provided extra practice questions and suggestion areas to further review as well as practice to avoid simple mistakes."
