Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was a good intro session to a new topic. The student and I are now moving into molar, solubility, and aqueous reactions. We defined dissolving and dissociation of ions in water. We reviewed hydrogen bonds. We defined solute and solvent as well as unsaturated, saturated, saturated with precipitate, and supersaturated solutions. We then defined the difference between moles and molality. In this was we can determine solubility and molality of solutions with changing volume or concentration. We will review and expand upon these ideas midweek."
"The student and I covered reactions. He was eager to learn, but struggled a little with the difference between an oxidation and a reduction. I told him how to differentiate between oxidations and reductions. No concerns."
"We only reviewed some of the old chemistry material that I had taught the student. I also helped him a little with anatomy and quizzed him to prepare him for his upcoming test."
"Today was half covering the last lectures that were covered (these were finishing up the mechanisms of translation, and protein location; and starting the topic of RNAi) and test prep for the student's exam tomorrow. We made it through all of the material that will be covered on the exam, as well as any remaining questions she had about past material."
"We started magnetism today. I taught the student a simplification to the right hand rule, just using your first three fingers on your right hand. Luckily her teacher had supplied her with a lot of practice problems. She was able to understand the subject by going over these questions. We also looked into the how the textbook dealt with this subject."
"The student and I briefly went over the ecology material that she covered in class this week. We will go more in depth on Monday before her test on Wednesday. We then went over the heredity chapter, covering the definitions. We spent the rest of time doing practice problems. She has a little difficulty remembering the definitions of terms, but with flashcards she should be fine. She also had a little trouble with the math problems associated with heredity, but she did much better towards the end of the session. She needs to continue practice problems and read two more chapters before next Monday."
