Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I did reading diagnostic assessments and learned annotation as a reading strategy. We also practiced summary, fluency, and comprehension concepts before we were done."
"Began grade 4 reading and comprehension segments. The student does well on the quizzes (16 of 20 correct in two sessions yesterday)."
"Student and I reviewed his reading of Wonder. He remembers the story well, and I am proud of him for being so diligent in his reading. We spent this session working on graphic organizers to help him remember this required text at the end of the summer. He created a character relationships web, identified key traits for seven of the characters, completed a Venn diagram of two main characters, and drew a book summary organizer for Wonder. Overall, he needed some prompting for critical thinking and analysis, but he did quite well. When prompted, he could correctly respond to analytical questions. On more basic level questions about plot content, he could almost always respond correctly without prompting. Overall, he understands this novel well. He will need to review his notes at the end of the summer to refresh his memory, but he should do well on any summer reading assignments at the beginning of the school year. We spent the latter portion of this session choosing his two remaining summer reading books."
"Today the student brought a note home that stated 3rd grade students needed to work on basic addition and subtraction facts. As well as working on ST Math 3-4 times a week. We set up his tablet for ST Math, and he did some place value. We continued reading Courage of Sarah Noble. He read aloud, and then he answered questions on understanding."
"Today the student completed the majority of his weekly homework, including reading a nonfiction passage and answering questions, reading a sight word book, practicing his weekly spelling words, completing a time-telling worksheet, and completing a subtracting by one's worksheet. His ability to attend to the tasks improved from last week's session. I look forward to working together again next week."
"Today the student did a story problem where he had to read facts about Star Wars and then answer questions. We also worked on counting, and he is very comfortable counting by 2's."
