Algebra Tutoring review by William in Youngstown, OH

Algebra Tutoring review by Nicholas in Youngstown, OH
The student and I first did some practice with balancing linear equations, finding how many solutions a given equation had. After that, we did some much harder work on variable replacement in equations. While the former he shows substantial improvement in, the latter is quite a challenge and we will continue to work on it, as it is ultimately the core of what Algebra is about and so is highly valuable time spent.

We continued to work on factoring polynomials and he finished all of his homework that he had assigned. A note of great progress was evident in him getting a 26/27 on his most recent quiz. I look forward to continuing to see him succeed as the semester progresses.

Algebra Tutoring review by Aunaly in Youngstown, OH
We started by walking through his algebra homework. The topic of the night was simplifying factored polynomials and showing them in standard form. He initially struggled with the terminology of what standard form was and how to simplify. After we walked through the first problem step by step he was able to do the remaining problems with very little problem. His test on Friday will be to memorize 10 more elements from the periodic table. He felt that he would be able to do that on his own. In the remaining time, we worked on reviewing his vocabulary for his Spanish exam tomorrow.

Algebra Tutoring review by Adam in Youngstown, OH
The student asked that we review material that she feels most challenged with in preparation for a major upcoming test. We briefly looked at multiplying binomials using FOIL and BOX methods. Then spent exclusive time reviewing graphs of linear inequalities and how to identify an inequality/ equation with a given graph. We discussed the rules for shading and when to use a dashed graph versus a solid line graph. We closed out by reviewing multiplication of exponents with several variable base numbers. She made a 100 on her homework from the previous week and says she feels confident about the upcoming test.

Algebra Tutoring review by Claire in Youngstown, OH
The student and I worked on factoring polynomials. I went through examples and showed her the general steps she should take for each type of polynomial. She was having the most difficulty understanding what the end result should look like, so we worked together to devise a strategy that first identified the general outline of the solution, then the signs that will correlate with each variable, and finally went into the specific values in the solution. She did much better on factoring the difference of perfect squares, however, I told her she will need to practice factoring more complex polynomials before her quiz on Thursday. I also suggested she memorize the values of perfect squares from 1-12 to make the problems go faster. I left her with a packet of problems with the answer key for her to work on.
