Algebra Tutoring review by Sona in Lansing, IL
Today the student and I worked on slope and finding the line of it. She was great about asking questions where she needed clarification and understanding. We also talked about the context of the formulas so she has a base of where they come from (making it easier to understand and remember).

Algebra Tutoring review by Joseph in Lansing, IL
This session started by reviewing a worksheet I had assigned to the student for homework the previous night. He had not completed the homework. He also had not shown any of his work and could not explain his answers to me. We had frank conversation about the importance of taking notes and being able to not only show your work, but to be able to explain it as well. I will target note taking for the remainder of our sessions. We continued our session discussing domain, range, functions, and x/y-intercepts. After several examples, he demonstrated increased knowledge of the concepts. I have emailed his mother another set of practice problems to help solidify the concepts.

Algebra Tutoring review by Kelie in Lansing, IL
The student picked up scientific notation really quickly, and I think he understands the concept well. He will probably only need a little bit of review on this before his test. When we were covering ranking numbers, he got the answer to the practice problem correct, but he did so in a different manner than I was trying to get across. He struggled a little bit with the exponents at first, but he after some practice he seemed much more confident. Mostly he seemed to forget that a negative exponent yields a fraction, which was setting him back a little bit when it came to the practice problems. This is definitely something I would like to briefly practice again in a couple of days or so, to make sure that the concept really stuck, because it's an important one that will probably show up again and again as he moves through the course. He also got a little mixed up when it came to negative exponents already in a fraction, but, again, I think that he had it down by the time we were done.
