Tutoring review by Steven in Alexandria, OH
The student and I covered the applications of the first derivative, as well as some applications of the second derivative. He worked very well with these subjects, and seemed to have a firm grasp on the concepts involved. He worked on his online homework practice problems, and was left with his homework to work on. He seemed comfortable with all of the concepts covered today, even though the second derivative section has not yet been covered in his class. By next week, we will know if there is a quiz or test scheduled for the following week, which we will be able to use as a score to note progress.

Tutoring review by Alex in Alexandria, OH
The student has since caught up with most of the material in algebra and chemistry, and so I brought up just a couple topics and odds and ends in chemical geometry and polynomial division. These were reviewed fairly quickly, mainly to confirm or make minor tweaks to his problem solving methods. We discussed polarity of molecules, chemical structure, and valence shells in concept. We also worked through several long division problems with polynomials without any issues.

We reviewed for the Chapter 3 test tomorrow. The student had a list of topics to go over, so I went through them with her. I explained concepts and showed example problems. Then, she wanted help with word problems, so I helped her understand how to set them up and solve them.

Tutoring review by Lynn in Alexandria, OH
The student has an excellent grasp of basic concepts that made it easy for her to learn how to multiply polynomials as well as how to apply special patterns tonight. We worked through the process for distributing terms in one polynomial to each term in a second polynomial one at a time. She only made one mistake when she added up the results in these problems. We discussed special patterns and then used FOIL to test the products we got with them. Finally, we worked on an application problem that required her to write an expression for the area of a circle that was not included in an inscribed square. It was a very productive session; she was attentive and engaged throughout the entire time.

Tutoring review by Darla in Alexandria, OH
The student said she did very well on the quiz we prepared for last time. Tonight, we went over problems from a worksheet, proved the converse of Ceva's Theorem, and applied it to some problems proving points were concurrent. Some other problems just involved calculating lengths in triangles and explaining the method of trisecting a line making parallelograms inside the triangle.

Tutoring review by Richard in Alexandria, OH
The student had just taken a test, but had one worksheet that was partially completed. First I checked the problems she had tried already and found a couple of errors. She corrected those and I showed her a better way to do them. She had exponential graphs that had different transformations to do to the basic version. Once we finished the worksheet, I made up four similar problems and had her try them all on her own. She got all four completely correct.
