Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on series and sequences. First we talked about sequences in general, then I made up some problems where she had to find the general equation for the series. She got this pretty quickly and did well! I also took a bit to explain what Factorials are and how they work. After that, we moved on to summations, which took her a bit to grasp, like what the different variables represent (particularly 'i'), but eventually she figured it out, such that when we moved on to series and partial sums it was easy. Finally, just before time was up we talked a bit about infinite series."
"In our session, we prepared for tomorrow's quiz/test. This focused on section 4.4 from your book, and specifically on finding the missing values of trigonometric functions, using definitions and identities to solve missing functions, and finding and sketching reference angles. You seemed to understand almost the whole section well. You are especially good at figuring out trigonometric functions and reference angle when they involve degrees. We definitely need to work harder, however, on your understanding of radians. Those problems are always more difficult for you. I think you seemed to understand them better tonight than in the past, but it will definitely take a bit more work to be comfortable with them. All in all, I think you're well prepared for your quiz tomorrow, as long as you remember the equations and charts that you need to."
"Today's session served as review for the student's upcoming makeup exam covering matrices. In addition, we went over log, natural log, and exponential growth. We went through the review sheet for logs, etc. and I explained a new method to the student that was easier than what she was being taught in class."
"Today, I assisted the student with his extra credit work on vectors and work. He did very well with the extra credit work. In particular, the problems on vectors helped us to understand the mistakes we were making on last week's problem set. He excels with his work, he just tends to make minor arithmetic errors that prevent him from obtaining the correct answer. He let me know that he received a 100% on his last quiz, which was great news to hear!"
"We went over arithmetic and geometric series and sequences. We also looked at word problems and how to tell what they are asking. She said she felt much better after walking though the word problems. She did pretty well when she figured out what was really being asked in the question. The session went smoothly."
"During session, we evaluated how to graph various polar equations, including limacons, cardioids, rose curves, and lemniscates."
