Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We found the old ACT that the student took in April and reviewed her answers from that test. She did so much better this time around and she seems a lot more comfortable with the math section now. She did extremely well with employing strategies and staying on time. I assigned her to finish the math section and go on to review the science section as well before our next meeting on Sunday."
"The student and I went through his essay and I made suggestions for changing the content and editing the grammar. He is going to work on the edits I sent him, and then email me a new version of his essay for us to discuss."
"Today we went over arthropods and their subclasses. We reviewed the biology the student is currently working on. Then we switched to SAT prep, and we worked on the SAT math section with no calculator. We timed the section to give a sense of the actual exam, and then we went over all the questions she had missed or skipped. Next week we will go over Biology first, and then go into SAT science reading."
"The student and I worked on reading comprehension and test taking strategies. We also worked on vocabulary words and using them in context. For extra practice, he was asked to complete one reading passage and respond to the attached questions and write down one synonym and one antonym for each of his vocabulary words."
"Today we reviewed many concepts that we've covered before such as algebraic expressions, adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals, solving proportions and more. A few of the concepts that were new today including mode, range, and mean. The student should continue practicing using order of operations to solve equations and long division, especially when dividing decimals. Her attitude towards her learning was great as always."
"Today, we worked on reading and word work. We reviewed homework that the student was given, and she reread the passage. We then went over the comprehension questions, and for the ones she did not get correct, we went back and discussed answers. She then reread a story for me, and we worked on decoding strategies when she came to words she was not familiar with. I modeled how to break the word up in chunks, and we also worked on vocabulary and definitions of words. I also brought some items for her little sister to work on sight words as we were working on reading."
